I was lipstick shopping for an event for my small female child. I planned on buying an inexpensive product- as it will be stored until the next event (6 months from now).  Looking at labels and finding made in China, I thought what is, the lipstick or the container or both?  I was reminded of those recalled, toxic bracelets and such. Then I came across this article:

A study by the Food and Drug Administration found 400 lipsticks on the market tested positive for lead. The least contaminated was "Wet & Wild Mega Mixers Lip Balm Bahama Mama." It was also the cheapest brand
Five L'Oreal and Maybelline lipsticks ranked among the most contaminated. The worst offender was "Maybelline Color Sensational Pink Petal" by L'Oreal USA. It contained more than 275 times the amount of lead than the Wet and Wild brand.
The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics wants the government to set limits for lead levels in lipsticks.
The FDA says the lead detected does not pose safety risks.

OK, so it looks like  my cheep lipstick decision was the right one this time. I will do a bit more research and report back. I've got some L'Oreal rolling around in my bag..... what's your favorite?
